O'Dwyers Adult Ladies (B) traveled out to St James Gaels on a fine summers evening this Wednesday. With both teams struggling in the league, we knew we would be in for a tough night.
O'Dwyers opened the scoring with a goal and a point to open an early lead. Gaels then got in on the act as they got their 1st point, followed by a point for O'Dwyers after which Gaels leveled the game at 1 - 02 each on 20 mins. Our girls kept positive and finished the half leading at 1 - 01 v 2 - 02.
Second half both teams got a point a piece before Gaels leveled the match again at 2 - 03 each. Great running and hard work resulted in O'Dwyers going ahead again with another goal and 3 points to put us 6 points up. At this stage we started to feel the pace of the game as Gaels rattled off 4 unanswered points to close the gap to just 2 points at 2 - 07 v 3 - 06. With only 10 mins left on the clock we were under a lot of pressure at this stage with Gaels pushing players forward in search of their first win of the season. But O'Dwyers Ladies were not to be denied and dug deep forcing Gaels to kick several wides in this period of pressure. A big turnover by Erin who broke out of defence and travelled into the attacking half or the pitch before delivering a beautiful ball forward frow which Annie Baxter scored the goal that broke Gaels hearts. O'Dwyers then saw out the match with another goal and 2 points to earn a hard fought and well deserved first win of the season.
Scorers on the night were : Katie 3g's 2pt's. Annie 1g 1pt.. Sarah 1g. Shauna 2pt's. Sophie 1pt Karen 1pt. Aimee 1pt.
