Crumlin was the venue for our last league league game on Tuesday evening and we travelled over in the knowledge that victory would mean automatic promotion to division 4. While we started the game well, we failed to get the scores on the board and were punished when Crumlin scored a fisted goal to put the 2 pts ahead. As much as our lads battled we just couldn't tag on enough scores to get ahead and Crumlin's use of the long high ball inside caused us some problems.
As the game progressed, we continued to have more possession and opportunities but it seemed like the significance of the occasion has gotten the better of the lads. Entering injury time we were 1 pt down and facing a disappointing journey back to Balbriggan, the lads showed real character, working the ball from our kickout down the left wing, when the ball switched back to Mossy in the center - there was only one option and that was to drop it in around the house... John Clarke (who had taken up the no 3 responsibility) got on the end of the ball to pass into James Keenan who hammered the ball to the net (2 pts up and the game was over).
From the agony of being close to defeat to the huge celebration on the final whistle - 3 minutes that will live in all our minds for a long long time. That makes it back to back promotions for the lads which is a great achievement.
Thanks for all the support throughout the league, it is appreciated by everyone involved with the team. The championship begins on August 13th against Crumlin in Bremore.
