The inclement weather last weekend resulted in our U12 Lighthouse team's match against Castleknock being called off as the pitches were unplayable. Our 12s Martello teams game managed to go ahead on an all-weather surface in Tallaght.
Travelling parents/supporters were treated to a thrilling match away to Thomas Davis. The rain pushed away just before the throw-in and O'Dwyers rushed into a quick lead with points from Jamie and brilliant goals from Fionn and Adam. It wasn't all plain sailing for them though as Thomas Davies was awarded a penalty to get them back into the game. The strongly hit left-footed shot was excellently pushed away by Daniel in goals, and he soon followed up with a fingertip save diving to his left to keep the Thomas Davis side at bay.
The defence was well marshalled as usual by Fionn and Rares and O'Dwyers took a well-deserved lead into half-time. It was a different Thomas Davis team in the second half however and they soon pulled back a couple of goals and points to bring them level. Then another goal followed and they took a 1-point lead.
This sparked the O'Dwyers side into life again. Goals from Jamie and Dillon got O'Dwyers back in front, Mateo scored an excellent left-footed goal which really pleased the coaches as the players work so hard in training learning to use both feet. Soon afterwards debutant Leo was really getting into the swing of things and another point followed. Nathan also coolly knocked over a lovely point towards the end.
It was back-to-the-walls stuff at times with Cayden ploughing a lone furrow working hard up front. Harry seemed to cover every inch of the pitch in the 2nd half. The work rate of all the lads was instrumental in the team grinding out an excellent 5-8 to 3-8 win.
