Dear Members and Supporters of O'Dwyers
Over the last number of weeks there have been a number of unsavory altercations at our scheduled games. I would like to take the opportunity to remind all members and supporters of O'Dwyers Code of Conduct and our expectation of members when attending games.
- Members/Supporters - Should not engage in verbal abuse or any interaction or commentary to a referee or other team regardless of the provocation. Only the club mentors are responsible to address referees.
- Members/Supporters - Should not encroach the playing area at any time during the game ie Remain behind the pitch barrier at Bremore park, and away from coach/team area's on Bells or AW pitch ( typically at half way line )
- Encourage and promote The O'Dwyers Way which is to be positive and supportive to our teams - A positive sideline and not a silent one
The Club Executive have discussed this matter in length and have agreed a Zero policy with this regard and to be implemented immediately. Any Member or Supporter that is reported for breach of our code of conduct will be sanctioned and disciplined accordingly.
Please click on the link here for our Club Policies note that as members and supporters of the club that you have signed up to adhere to these policies.
A new policy will be issued to all Coaches/Mentors regarding recent incidents and will be communicated to teams in due course
We as members and supporters of O'Dwyers have a duty of care which we should take extremely seriously to ensure that we create a welcoming and enjoyable environment for our players to enjoy playing our sports and I would like to ask for your support in this matter to drive the negativity from our club and to encourage and protect the O'Dwyers Way to support positively our teams.
Remember
- Referees are human and we all make mistakes
- This is not Croke Park or an All Ireland Final
- There will be plenty of games and more Wins & losses for the teams
- Support your Children & be positive and encouraging
- Lead by example you are an adult and players and kids learn from our behavior
- The Coaches have a plan and are giving instructions - shouting instructions to players confuses them and affects their health and wellbeing and enjoyment of the game
Yours in Sport
Liam Howley
