Our U14s hurling team made the trip to St Anne's Park today to face Scoil Uí Chonaill in a winner takes all game for a place in the Div 6 Hurling final. We were missing a couple of regular starters but were able to field a strong team nevertheless.

We started well with some well taken scores from Dillon, Julian and Matthew but were pegged back by some fine point taking by Scoil to head into the first water break 3 points down.

It was end to end again in the 2nd quarter but thanks to some great puck outs from Callum and some fine fielding and covering from Conor, Eden and Leon we were slightly ahead at half time by 2 points, 5-3 to 2-10 in our favour.

After half time we got 2 quick goals and a point but Scoil continued to send over some lovely points to stay in touch and the score was 7-4 to 2-16 at the 3rd quarter break.

Things boiled over a bit in the 4th quarter as both teams went at it hard and gave all they could.
We went ahead by 8 points after 2 quick goals only for John to be sent off for 2 yellows, turns out in error, and the game turned in Scoil's favour. They got back to within 1 point of us to set up a very nervous finish only for Julian to send over the insurance point after Conor was fouled and the ref blew the final whistle.

There was a couple of seconds there where no one was sure of the final result but the roar from our players after they got the referees score confirmation was the signal that the boys had ridden out the storm and booked their place in the Division 6 Cup Final.

We had 16 heroes on the pitch today but as is tradition we have to pick a potm and we feel it's only fair to give the award to Matthew who was outstanding at no.10 and Callum in nets, who swears he's not a goalkeeper, for some inspirational saves when we were under the cosh in the last 5 mins.

Onwards and upwards for the group and no matter what happens on the 30th they are already winners for the effort and patience they have shown over the past few months.

See yis all for the final
