O'Dwyers U.15 Hurlers had a top of the table clash with Bohernabreena (Crumlin / St Anns) Sunday morning. With O'Dwyers 2 from 2 on 4 points in the group and Bohernabreena on 3 points with a win and a draw, they came out here with a strong panel of 20 players. Looking for and expecting the win Bohernabreena flew out of the blocks with the lions share of possession taking their scores well. Sean Richardson taped over some nice frees to keep us in the game. The first quarter saw us behind O'Dwyers 0 - 04 Bohernabreena 1 - 06
We talked about marking tighter and picking up the intensity. The lads raised their game in the second quarter and started to play the sort of hurling we know we're capable of. With some great work being done in midfield and the forward lines O'Dwyers Sean Creamer hit the back of the net to light up the scoreboard along with a fine point from a free by John Meaney after he was coming in for some close attention by the Bohernabreena midfield. This saw the scoreboard sitting at O'Dwyers 2 - 09 Bohernabreena 1 - 07
Half time we asked the lads to stay focused, keep their discipline as Bohernabreena began to get a bit feisty. We knew if we kept taking the points that we could take the win. We also knew that they would come out all guns blazing, which they did wit the first 2 points of the half. But we got to grips with them and meet them head-on and Pádraig Maher put two over the bar to keep the scores coming. With the scores at O'Dwyers 2 -13 Bohernabreena 1 - 12 going into the final quarter it was all to play for.
Bohernabreena gave it a big push in the final quarter. Again John Meaney felt the brunt of this and unfortunately the ref allowed play to continue while he was down with a head injury, at which time Bohernabreena pulled back a goal. Thankfully he was ok but we conceded another goal soon after to put us under a bit of pressure. We dug deep, took another couple of scores followed by a monster save by our magnificent keeper Ryan Baker with just 3 points between the teams. He found our free man and set us on the attack from which we scored a vital point from where we pushed on to come away with a hard-earned and well-deserved win.
Final score
O'Dwyers 2 - 21 Bohernabreena 3 -12
