Our U16 hurling team traveled to Skerries Harps for the first round of Hurling C Championship. In what was a very warm and blustery evening with a strong breeze swirling across the pitch.
We started well getting a couple of early scores with no reply, Skerries to their credit kept with us and took a very well-worked goal which put them ahead of us... Both teams traded some very well worked scores and we went in at half-time with Skerries having a marginal lead of 1-6 to 0-8, as a team, we were happy with the first-half performance and apart from the Goal we had kept Skerries to two points from play.
More of the same was asked from the lads at half time, the second commenced with the wind swirling and giving Skerries an advantage, they rattled off two points with no reply, we did not panic and kept playing. We were unlucky to have a goal ruled out for a square ball mid-second half and unfortunately, we then conceded a very fortuitous goal. We battled very strongly again keeping Skerries scores from play to the absolute minimum, we were unlucky at times to concede some scoreable frees which Skerries took full advantage off.
The lads were disappointed with the result albeit we had a good performance, it was a very close game and could have gone either way with a different bounce of the sliotar. There were lots of positives to take from the game and we were not far off on a good win.
The game ended Skerries Harps 2-11 and O'Dwyers 1-9
Out next championship game will be 15th August against Good Counsel at home in Bremore Park
