Congratulations to Eoghan O’Callaghan from O’Dwyers GAA Club on the occasion of his 100th birthday and we thank him for he all has done for ours and his club. Eoghan watched O’Dwyers playing their first match as a child in the 1930s in what is now Derham Park, long before O’Dwyers had a pitch of their own.
In the late 1940s he hurled with Dal Cáis hurling club which was set up by the late Don Cotter and won the Fingal Feis in 1949 and the Junior Hurling League in 1950. At the same time, he was a member of O’Dwyers and by 1957 he was chairperson of the hurling club.
He was a noted actor and won the Feis Cup for best actor in Fingal in 1953. When Pioneers folded in the early 1960’s and the Bremore pitch first passed into the hands of O’Dwyers he helped build the “hut” which would eventually become a bigger clubhouse to be officially opened in 1992.
As Eoghan celebrates his 100th birthday, we at O’Dwyers, take this opportunity to thank him for all he has done for the club and Balbriggan, and for his loyalty and support, and we hope to see him in our new home.
Thank you for all, Eoghan!
