PHASE 6🔥🔥🔥🔥our youth athletic development programme is now moving onto phase 6! What a success this has been so far💪🏼
Please see a great update below with thanks to Barry O’Donnell👏🏼
📊 Athletic Development Programme update.
Phase 6 coming in August | U13 to U16 Boys & Girls
⸻
👋 Purpose of update
• To share progress on the players athletic development journey
• Explain what’s ahead in Phase 6
• Show how this supports performance, injury prevention, safety & long-term well-being for our players.
⸻
🔍 What We Noticed Early On (Phase 1)
1. Movement Challenges
• Basic patterns like squats, lunges, and hip hinges were hard to perform correctly
• These movements are the building blocks for safe and strong athletic performance
2. Jumping, Landing & Changing Direction
• Many struggled with balance and control during fast movements
• These can lead to common injuries in youth sports if not addressed early
3. Limited Flexibility & Mobility
• Stretching and mobility exercises were difficult
• Tight muscles and poor flexibility increase risk of injuries
⸻
📈 What’s Improved (Phase 4 Recap)
✅ Better control in key movement patterns
✅ Improved joint mobility and balance
✅ Strengthened key areas (hips, core, knees)
✅ Reduced risk of injury through better technique
🏆 Result: A stronger, safer, and more confident group of young athletes!
⸻
🚀 What’s Next in Phase 6?
🔁 Refine & Reinforce Movement Skills
• Practice complex versions of core movements
• Continue injury prevention strategies
🏋️♀️ Prepare for Gym-Based Training
• We want players to be ready and safe to lift and train in the gym
• Building strength that supports their sport performance
⸻
🎯 Long-Term Goals
• Support each child’s individual athletic development
• Build confidence, coordination, and body awareness
• Help them enjoy sport more and stay injury-free
• Create a strong base for future gym training or high-performance sport
⸻
Big thanks to all our players attending the programme as progress wouldn’t be possible without:
• Their consistent effort
• Parents/guardians support at home
• Our shared commitment to long-term development—not just short-term wins 🙌
