Our U16 lads kicked off their championship at the weekend with a bang.
Scorching sunshine on a beautiful Bells for a cracker of a game v Ballyboden. The lads wanted to prove they had what it takes and they didn't disappoint.
Starting strong in the first quarter going into the first water break 0-6 to 0-2 they worked some great scores to own the lead.
The next 2 quarters were a mix of trading scores with Ballyboden, surving the heat of the day, and the lads figuring out how to minimise their own handling errors. Ballyboden missed alot of wides in this period of pressure and allied with some great goal saving blocks from our keeper and defenders that could have punished us more. At one stage through this phase they were 5 pts up.
The 4th quarter started with the lads tails up, we were 2 pts down on a Ballyboden side who were trying to finish out the game on top. They held Ballyboden at the half way line, applied massive amounts of pressure and didn't force the score, they were patient, precise, calm and bounced in 2 goals in quick succession, also collecting points on winning the kickouts which led us to a final score on the day of 4-12 to 1-11.
The lads worked as a team ,the subs were a huge part of the game as well.
Each and every single player had a job to do and a team mate to fight for. And they did just that.
Well done lads super day out & first one over and done with.
Bring on round 2 🟢
